Schedule An Uber Pickup In Advance With ‘Taxi Later’

Uber is great for quick pick and drop services, but it does not yet allow you to schedule pickups in advance. Thankfully, there’s a way you can pre-schedule your ride with a certain third-party app. Learn how after the bump.

Uber on phone

Uber is crazy popular all over the world. People love how convenient and oddly futuristic it is. Just press a few virtual buttons on your phone, and bam! there’s a special taxi ride just for you waiting outside your door. It’ll pick you up and take you anywhere you want – and you don’t have to worry about being charged extra, or being mistreated by the driver. No wonder Uber is worth more than $50 billion.

Now, as I said at the start of this blog post, Uber only allows you to order pickups right away. You cannot choose to schedule your ride a few weeks, days or even hours later. There’s no good reason for this, too, since competitor ride-hailing services like Careem allow you to schedule rides any date and time in the future, and you can choose to schedule repeat pickups if you, say, want to commute with it.

We’ve come across a new iPhone app called Taxi Later [App Store]which allows you to order an Uber for a date and time in the future. It’s really easy to use, and introduces a much-wanted feature in Uber!

It’s simple to use: after signing in with your Uber account, just request a ride like you normally would and then tap on the time and date. From here you can select any date and a particular time for when the Uber will pick and drop you to your chosen destination. Taxi Later will then confirm the details with you.

You can view all your scheduled Ubers from the app’s menu. You can, of course, choose to cancel them if plans change. Just swipe left on any scheduled pickup to do so.

Taxi Later is definitely highly useful app. It does the job it claims to do. I just wish it looked a tad better. The whole experience feels like a poor Uber rip-off, rather than a cool app that works on top of Uber.

The developer behind Taxi Later will hopefully improve the UX of their app, and add a Careem-like repeat pickups option, too. It would be even better if Uber itself included this functionality within their main app itself.

Please note that we were unable to test Taxi Later for ourselves as the app comes with a critical bug on the logon screen: users – like me – who signed up for Uber using Facebook, have simply no way to login to Taxi Later. I tried multiple work arounds, but nothing quite worked. Hopefully this, too, will be resolved in a future update to Taxi Later.
