In the newer builds of Internet Explorer for Windows 10, Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to have a Sad or Smiley face constantly staring at the user and looking at us uncomfortable, like a horror movie.

If you are made uncomfortable by these views from the emoticon, you can take a few simple steps to rid yourself of the menace and continue surfing with nothing staring back at you once more. Follow us as we show you how to remove send a smile feature from Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 10.

To remove the emoticon from the browser, start by pressing CTRL + R (Run) and typing the following:

C:WindowsSystem32

When you are in there, locate “ieframe.dll

How to adjust the frame in Internet Explorer

Copy the mentioned dll file to an easy to access location, such as your desktop.

Next, download Resource Hacker and install it.

Once the mentioned app is installed, open up the dll file in the application. Navigate to the Bitmap folder in the dll and “unfold it“, then you have to look for the highlighted entries.

Now, download the following rar file [Juumpshare], and unzip its contents to a convenient to access location.

For each individual entry, you have to right-click and choose “Replace Bitmap …“, for each respective entry, link it to its respective bmp image from the above linked rar file.

Getting on the road to remove send a smile feature

In resource hacker, right-click on the entry again and choose “Replace Bitmap“. You will get the box below, and you will have to navigate to the respective bmp file by clicking on “Open file with new bitmap” and choosing replace.

Once you have done all 6 entries, save this file and copy it back to the original directory (C:WindowsSystem32) if it asks you to replace, grant it permission.

You will now find Internet Explorer 11 to be completely smiley free and you can continue your merry way. While the tweak just makes the smiley invisible, it is still making the unsightly face disappear and that’s what we want, right?

IF for some reason the above guide didn’t work for you, try the above steps but substituting the visiting directory for C:WindowsSyswow64.

While we appreciate Microsoft’s efforts for taking feedback on their products, there are certainly better ways to doing so without haunting the users by using a smiley face or a frown face.
