One Kilo Gold & Diamond Coin Commemorates Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

I guess Royal Canadian Mint was the first in the league to bring the idea of making diamond coins in order to give a blinged tribute to the Queen Elizabeth. Thinking big on the same idea, The East India Company, one of the world’s first gold traders, has created limited edition pure gold and silver coins to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth. Each Gold Kilo Coin is encrusted with over 100 diamonds and worth about £125,000 (approx. US$198 863). Weighting a kilo, each coin features a beautiful portrait of the queen wearing a tiara, brooch and necklace which actually boast real (2 carat) diamonds.
The company has produced 60 pure gold and 60 pure silver coins that are available for purchase at the company’s Mayfair shop or online. At the launching ceremony of the coin Sanjeev Mehta, Chairman of The East India Company, said that the company has been known in the precious metal trade since 1800. It was and still is the only corporate in history to mint its own trading currency. It made sense to commission our own silver and gold coins in this day and age.
