Microsoft has sent out another update to Windows 10 1511. In this post, we will discuss just that – update codename KB3116908 for Windows 10.
Since Windows 10 has hit the stores, it has undergone some small upgrades to treat certain bugs that have made life difficult for users around the world. The most major of updates since Windows 10’s release came in November. The reason it’s the only major update to date is because it brought significant internal changes to the OS which include restoration of Media Creation Tools and its availability via ISOs.
Both these were of significant importance to users hence Microsoft developers quickly sought to make amends and released the November update. Previously, Microsoft aimed to mediate the November update via the help of Windows updates only. The reason for this backtracking, as Microsoft officials say, is that some users reported privacy settings infringement. This isn’t the first time Windows has experienced bugs. The error 0x80070643 is also well documented when it comes to updates.
While the November update may have been somewhat dealt with, Microsoft has been continually releasing some smaller cumulative updates to Windows 10 for some time now. Recently, KB3116908 became the third cumulative update since the major November update to have been rolled out, merely just over a month from now. The first of these cumulative updates called KB3120677 was released just a week after the major November update. The update was due to bring the OS in line with the media tools that can once again be downloaded. That was the only major bug this cumulative update fixed. What else did it do? We have no idea.
Then came the second of these cumulative updates and now we have the third one which brings the OS version to 10586.17 from 10586.14. We have absolutely no idea as to why is this update released. Microsoft just hasn’t noted anything in the changelog. It quite possibly is a performance enhancer or fixes some internal bugs.
To get the KB3116908 update, go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Updates > Check for updates or simply wait for Windows to automatically download it.
Simply install the update if it appears in the list shown below.
Note that it only applies to systems updated to version 1511 i.e systems after the major November Windows 10 update.
