Teaming your iPhone with an iPhone case that can enable satellite communication will surely pay-off for users that are always on the go. Keeping this in mind Thuraya has revealed the SatSleeve satellite adaptor for the Apple iPhone that brings unattended satellite communication network onto your iPhone. Thuraya SatSleeve is apparently the world’s first product with such functionality and offers a very extensive mobile satellite network communication. All you have to do is, slide your iPhone into the case and sync it with the SatSleeve app to get going with the satellite communication luxuries. Thuraya has teamed up with network providers in America (except North and south America) to set up roaming deals with iPhone supported bandwidths.
Thuraya SatSleeve has its own battery so you don’t have to worry that it will drain out your smartphones battery in any way. The satellite signals are transmitted and received via the sitcom dock to iPhone via Bluetooth connectivity and there is also an added function to make emergency call to one number even when the iPhone is not attached to it. SatSleeve carries a hefty price tag of $499 (satellite airtime fees extra) and currently only supports iPhone 4/4S, but an iPhone 5 version is surely on the cards.
Samer Halawi, Chief Executive Officer of Thuraya, said:
The launch of Thuraya SatSleeve represents a major milestone and a game-changing innovation in the satellite industry. This is the first consumer friendly mobile satellite phone ever launched, which dramatically increases the reach to satellite telephony for enterprise, government, and everyday consumers alike. It provides iPhone users with a versatile and highly affordable means of conducting phone calls and sending SMS via satellite from the world’s most remote locations.
