SportSub Solo submarine takes you on an underwater adventure worth experiencing

As cool as it sounds the concept of a one man submarine is something that will surely let everyone’s imagination loose on the possibilities of underwater adventure. Designed by International VentureCraft Corp. the One-Person SportSub Solo is also deemed as a “Yacht Toy” by them because it takes you on the ride of your life. The design of the submarine is sophisticated and simple at the same instant as it gives you an exhilarating submersible experience in a shell like hull and the internal pressure and external pressure are always equal because the bottom is open to water. In order to keep the SportsSub in a stable position at all times complying with the center of buoyancy and center of gravity principle.

To enter the SportsSub solo submarine you’ll have to swim down and enter from the rear which is a bit of a hassle but ensures that there is no loss of buoyancy or any chance of the opening getting jammed. For maximum visibility in underwater adventures SportsSub uses flat windows to avoid any natural distortions like refraction which can obstruct the vision and the dome shaped side windows exploit the distortion effect. To maintain supply of fresh air in the cockpit flow meter is used and the chamber set to various pressures to simulate different depths.

The movement of SportSub is achieved using two thrusters that are embedded onto the dive plains and two control handles actuate the maneuvering of this submarine. The thruster of this submarine is speed control joystick just like a fly-by-wire system used in military aircrafts. There are two marine batteries that power the solo submarine and help keep its weight well under 150 pounds and comes with accessories needed to operate it.

Amazingly SportSub Solo also featured on Ultimate Air Jaws in the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week which is quite an achievement for this project. although the cost of SportSub has not been listed on the official website but if the cost of spare parts and upgrades is taken into account it is around $40,000.
