Windows Updates are meant to make things better for us. When applied, they sometimes tend to reset our personal settings. So, it’ll be a nice idea to learn how to restore default apps when an Windows update resets them.
The way Windows gets updated nowadays has received mixed to good responses. Sometimes, you have to wait for a long time for Windows updates to get installed. Also, apps getting automatically updated in the background causes your battery to drain very rapidly. However, you can stop apps running in the background to prevent them from getting automatically updated.
According to recent complaints, it is said that when Windows gets updated, all your personal settings get reset by it. This means that if you’ve changed default apps for certain programs, they get shifted back to the built-in Windows apps. For instance, if you’ve set Windows Photo Viewer as your default app for viewing photos, the update will revert it back to Windows Photos app.
We don’t know why this happens but this is something you’d definitely not like. If you don’t want this to happen, you can backup or restore default apps. Although you can do it through registry editing, we’d recommend that you do it through a third party app called Default Program Manager. The regedit, in this case, has not proven to be a credible way. Without further due, restore default apps from the steps below.
Steps to restore default apps after updating Windows 10
Step 1: Download Default Program Manager [Default Programs Editor website] from the link below.
Step 2: Extract and open it.
Step 3: Click on create or restore a backup of registry settings in the bottom of the window as shown in the image below.
Step 4: In the resulting window,Click on backup.
Step 5: Wait for it to complete its procedure.
This is all. Whenever you want to restore this backup, open the app and do Step 3. After that, click on restore selected backup and voila!
A few things to keep in mind are that creating a registry backup can take several minutes. So, don’t be fooled if it takes time. Furthermore, you might need to click backup twice for it to work. It worked pretty nicely for me, how about you?
