Nano technology looking to replace sniffer dogs in the coming future

Sniffer dogs have been a priced asset for law enforcement agencies since a long time and efforts have been made to emulate this very capability to detect explosives illegal stuff but sadly with minimal accuracy. Now V Ramgopal Rao, a professor of electrical engineering at IIT, Mumbai is hard at work developing nano-technology sensors that can mimic the behavior of sniffing dogs that are capable of detecting illegal stuff and bombs even from a considerable distance. The technology is still in its infancy stage and the ultimate goal is to build low cost detection system that can be deployed everywhere to beef up security in crowded sections of a city.
Right now the challenge in developing such a system is to maintain the delicate balance of sensitivity to detect low concentration of illegal stuff and the accuracy to recognize an explosive for example with maximum accuracy.
