As a continuation of our love with intuitive third party applications, we couldn’t help but introduce you to O&O ShutUp10. With this little fella, you can manage Windows 10 security and privacy settings from a single spot!
Data Collection in Windows 10
Windows 10 collects diagnostic and feedback data from its users in many unknown ways in a bid to improve its performance and future builds. Although Microsoft’s intentions are good, this anonymous collection of data might not be music to your ears particularly as we all know how important cyber security is in today’s world.
ShutUp 10 is a spy behind enemy lines whose job is to disable all sources of information leak from your computer i.e. it stops Windows 10 from sharing telemetry data, WiFi Sense passwords, submitting data to Microsoft for sampling viruses, error reports etc.
Every once in a while, a new hidden feature comes in which is collecting our private information and passing it on to Microsoft for analysis. For them, it is a policy which allows users to get on board with the company in making Windows a better OS. For most of us, this is a cause of unease as nobody likes any sort of information getting sucked out of their computer without them knowing about it.
Like GWX Control Panel which can be used to disable any sort of unwanted downloading that forces upgrades to Windows 10, ShutUp 10 has the capability to disable all sorts of secret information senders to Microsoft from your computer. Let’s get you familiarized with the application.
ShutUp10 Overview
ShutUp10 is a small-sized application that is designed to keep your privacy in Windows 10 at a maximum. With features which allow you to personally dictate what sort of information you can let go from your computer and what is highly confidential to you, it literally gives you even more firm control over your computer. You can view the image to see a brief list of what security options it can enable / disable quickly to enhance your security and privacy.
ShutUp10’s user interface mirrors that of a Windows 7 program. It does seem to look a little better than most of them because of its simplicity. The UI only consist of a single window which consists all the options you’d require to effectively administer your security and privacy settings. It also displays a toolbar which provides some further options to give you a helping hand with your management as shown in the image above.
ShutUp10 Features
The menu lists all the options under categories allowing you to simply go over to the one of your interest and enable/disable it from there. The three buttons in the toolbar have the following meanings:
- The File button lets you import or export certain settings if you feel that they’re somehow missing from the list of options.
- The Actions button contains a list of options which help you in managing your privacy settings in a better way. By clicking on that button, you can either select to Apply all recommended settings, apply all recommended and limited recommended settings, apply all settings, undo all changes or create a system restore point.
- The Help button to view information about the application.
The way the app works is that first you have to download the .zip file from the link below. When done, extract it anywhere and then open the OOSU.exe file. Once opened, the window displays all the different options which you can choose to either enable or disable through the toggle switches placed before them. If you’re unaware of what an option does, you can simply click on it and it will display what action it performs.
Through this, a user can disable Cortana, calendar, camera, WiFi diagnostics from collecting any sort of info about the way the user uses these applications or whatever location or cameras were used in taking images and videos etc.

The Action button is of significant importance to this program. It contains the three important option which you can apply to your Windows 10.
- By clicking on the Apply all recommended settings button, settings which ShutUp10 deem important to be enabled/disabled are automatically dealt with.
- Apply all recommended and limited recommended settings takes a harder stance against Windows but almost performs similar functionality by also applying all limited settings present in the app.
- Apply all settings applies all the settings present in the list in the main window of the program and ensures Windows 10 remains chained all the time.
- Undo all changes simply reverts all changes applied to the OS through ShutUp10.
- Create a system restore point is a safety precaution which we highly encourage you to use before making any changes.
That brings us to the end of our review. ShutUp10 is sure to keep your Windows 10 locked up and secure all the time. You simply need not to worry about any mysterious information leakage as the application has got it covered. Be sure to try it out from the link below and remember to frequently use the system restore point option while working with ShutUp10.
