Bikers have never been safe on roads, there have been numerous designs and concepts to minimize fatalities in cars and other autos, but bikes have remained aloof, leaving bikers as scapegoat for road accidents. To provide the much needed safety to bikers, Dainese an Italian maker has developed D-air Street, a protective airbag system for bikers clothing and the bike itself. The new airbag system is designed in two seperate parts – while one is the J-Kit – clothing unit featuring pneumatic gas system to fill the 12-liter airbags within the biker’s clothing, and the M-Kit made up of sensors fitted to the frames and bike forks.
On event of an accident, an electronic radio system intimates an impact to the clothing which releases the airbags, and simultaneously, in 45 milliseconds an electronic control unit deploys the airbags to minimize contact. Slated for May release, the M-Kit will set back a biker with $620, and the waistcoat will cost $1020. Is it too much a price for your safety, well that’s your take.
