Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14257 is now out to Windows Insiders in the fast ring; find out what is new in the latest build.
Microsoft seems to be pushing Insider Preview Builds really frequently! This latest build – 14257 – is perhaps to speed up the process of releasing Redstone for the public user base faster. Each new preview build brings with it a series of changes (usually under-the-hood), so let’s discuss out what lies in wait for developers who dive into Preview Build 14257.
What’s New In Insider Preview Build 14257?
There aren’t many changes in 14257 as you might be thinking, however. That is fine, since one has to keep in mind that the Insider Preview Builds made a huge leap from 11000 series to the 14000 series recently, and the last one had the build number of 14251.
Insider Preview Build 14257 is all about bugfixes and improvements. Here’s what’s new, based on the changelog:
- The connect button is back in Action Center.
- Developer tools (F12) now load properly in Microsoft Edge.
- Issue of jumbled up desktop icons after changing DPI settings from 100% – 175% or in between has been fixed.
- Fixed an error that prevented .zip files from being pasted.
- Solved an issue where users would still see “Occasionally show suggestions in start” even with the option disabled in Personalization.
- Fixed issue when trying to set “Get fun facts, tips, tricks and more on your lock screen” not staying on and requiring constant toggling.
As with other Insider Preview Builds, there are a fair share of bugs or known issues in this build too:
- Computers with a front facing camera that use Intel RealSense will not function, leaving Windows Hello and other supported apps failing to detect your camera.
- When you login to Windows, the taskbar will show you to be in Airplane mode, which won’t be true since your WiFi is running. This is an issue with a communication of the UI and can be remedied by turning Airplane mode on and off again.
- Seeing WSClient.dll error after logging in? It can be fixed by running the following line in command prompt:
schtasks /delete /TN “MicrosoftWindowsWSWSRefreshBannedAppsListTask” /F
- If you choose to “Reset This PC” through Settings –> Update & Security –> Recovery and the recovery options, your PC will be unstable. If this happens there is no fix and a mandatory Windows reinstall is the only recourse. This bug also existed in 14251, so if you choose to revert to a previous build, perhaps you should set your sights for Insider Build 11102.
