Windows 10 background apps refer to a set of apps that always run in your computer’s background. These apps provide you certain features such as notifications etc. Those apps can be universal or desktop Windows apps. Universal apps include the Alarms and Clock, Mail, Calendar etc.
The mail app is a very useful application which we can use for managing our mail without having to go through any hassle. Similarly, the alarms and clock can be used to add alarms etc. The date and time can be used to add multiple clocks etc. These apps continually run in the background by default which also enables them to get automatically updated.
At first look, apps running in the background would do us more good than harm. This will always not be the case as their background operation effects your battery time and PC’s performance. Step 1: Open Settings.
Step 2: Click on Privacy: Location, Camera.
Step 3: From the left side menu, click on background apps.
Step 4: From the list of apps under Let apps run in the background, turn off the apps you do not want running in your background as shown in the image below.
This will be enough. One thing that you’ll need to take care of is that by turning these apps off, they will stop getting updates. So, you’ll need to update them manually after sometime otherwise they might lose their functionality due to becoming obsolete.
