Today, we will teach you the age old Windows tradition of how to hide recycle bin from your desktop, for the neat freaks!
There is just something magical about having a spotless desktop that is free of icons, this is of course a thought shared by a minority of the Windows user base, but in the end it is indeed an exciting experience. Do check out the bonus step at the end of the guide ;).
The ability to hide recycle bin has been a feature that has been in the Windows OS for generations and the fad truly started with Windows XP and has since then become a time honored tradition in the Windows OS line for neat freaks.
While the way of hiding the recycle bin isn’t as simple as a right-click or pressing a delete button, this guide will walk you through a few simple steps to do it and have your minimalist desktop dream come to fruition!
For those of you who still want the icon to be around, you can easily affix the recycle bin to your taskbar and restore the icon anytime you wish by following the same steps mentioned in this guide.
STEP 1:
Press Windows Key + S and type in themes, when you do so, you will see the option of “Themes and related settings” click on it.
STEP 2:
You will automatically be taken to the following window, click on Desktop Icon Settings as shown in the following screenshot.
STEP 3:
You will now see the following options, depending on your preference, you can choose to tick or untick the recycle bin box to maintain the icon on your desktop (untick will remove the icon, tick will keep the icon on your desktop).
When you have decided the fate of your recycle bin icon, proceed to pressing Apply, followed by OK and you will now notice your desktop shy of a recycle bin icon!
Bonus Step:
Alternatively, if you want to cheat and quickly give yourself a minimalist desktop without the need of the guide, simply right click on the desktop, click on View and click on (if ticked) Show Desktop Icons! Just like that, your icons are now invisible!
Want your icons back? Simply do the process again and click on Show Desktop Icons again!
As you can see, the guide does indeed work. You are now one step closer to making your icon-free desktop a reality!
