The default Windows 10 touch keyboard is quite simple. In fact, it’s too simple for most people’s tastes. This is why we suggest you consider turning on the standard layout which includes the Fn, Alt, Control, and Windows keys. Follow the guide after the jump.
Windows 10 was designed to be very diverse. It was meant to cater the tablet, later Surface users, as well as the PC users equally. We’re well aware of its famed tablet mode which transforms Windows 10 to an extremely caring environment for touchscreen devices but it also has some other prominent features that make it even more interesting.
The foremost of them is the touch keyboard. It is well designed in keeping in view the principles of human computer interaction but functionality wise, it is not the best. It misses most of the standard layout keys you have on your actual keyboard which is probably something that will really annoy you while using the touch keyboard. Power users would certainly want the modifier keys like Control, Windows, and Alt.
That’s a thing of the past now as Windows Clan will tell you how you can make your on screen keyboard even more powerful by using the standard layout. Here’s how.
How to add standard layout to your touch keyboard in Windows 10:
Step 1: Open Settings app.
Step 2: Click on Devices.
Step 3: On the left side menu, Click on Typing.
Step 4: In the list of options below Touch Keyboard, toggle on the option that says Add the standard keyboard layout as a touch keyboard option as shown in the image below.
Step 5: Now open the touch keyboard.
Step 6: Click on the keyboard button at the bottom right corner.
Step 7: Select the left most keyboard from the list of layouts as shown in the image below.
That’s it. Now you will see a notable difference in the number of keys on your touch keyboard. It includes all the keys that are present on your physical keyboard. However, there is no room for the number pad due to the lack of space but its absence is very intuitively made for through the inclusion of the number keys as is on the standard layout. It is much more powerful now and working with it will be much more easier due to the extra number of keys on it as shown in the image below.
