The Mail app in Windows 10 is a great asset to the OS; you can make it even better by enabling push email notifications so you receive your mails in real-time!
The Mail app may have its ups and downs, but once you use it frequently, it really is a great app to have on hand. By default, the Mail app is set to sync your email after a set period of time, but there is a way to get your mail instantly without the need of waiting for a sync period to occur.
Keep in mind that keeping mail on constant sync will consume significantly greater energy on any device, but also keep in mind that you can change the sync period once when you are away from a power outlet or otherwise to lengthen the battery life of your device. It’s okay!
STEP 1:
Start up the Mail app and navigate to the gear icon highlighted below:
STEP 2:
Click on Manage Accounts from the slide out box on the right side of the screen.
STEP 3:
When you see your accounts, click on the email account you wish to enable push notifications on.
STEP 4:
You will get a new window to open, in that window click on “Change mailbox sync settings“.
STEP 5:
You will be taken to a new window where you will see a drop down box “Download new content” from the drop down box, choose “As items arrive“. Once you have chosen it, click on Done and that’s it – you’ve enabled push email in the Windows 10 Mail app!
You can replicate the above process with all the mail accounts linked to your mail app, all you have to do is choose a different account at step 3.
This is a really handy trick for enabling push email notifications. It ensures that the Windows 10 mail app acts just as good, if not better, than leaving an email account tab open in your web browser.
Additionally, it is a great way to make sure you never miss a single email due to time or those really urgent emails at the time of exams or assignments.
