Downloading videos from streaming sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, Vimeo onto your iPhone or iPad isn’t an straightforward task, but we’ve discovered a way to do it using Safari bookmarks and a couple of apps. It works for both downloading MP4 videos, as well as downloading MP3 songs from music videos.
Let’s get right into it.
Step 1: Start by downloading the following app for iOS: Documents 5 [App Store]. It’s a popular file manager plus doubles as a way of downloading files from the Internet – something that’s not quite built-in with Safari.
Step 2: Launch Safari. Open a new tab. Go to any website. Any website at all! Seriously, go ahead.
Step 3: Press the Share button at the bottom. It’s the button in the middle with the upwards-facing arrow.
Step 4: Select the Add Bookmark option. Give this bookmark the name “Download MP4 Video”. It’ll make sense shortly, trust me.
Step 5: In the “address” field, add the following Javascript code:
javascript:window.location='r'+('http://alltubedownload.net/redirect?url='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)[2] );
Step 6: Save the bookmark.
Step 7: Now go to YouTube or any other popular video streaming website.
Step 8: Search for and open the video you want to download.
Step 9: Stop the video as soon as it starts playing. Tap on “Done”.
Step 10: Open your Bookmarks in Safari, and tap on the “Download MP4 Video” bookmark you created in Step 4.
Step 11: iOS will ask if you want to open this link in Documents. Tap on Open, of course.
Step 12: Wait a few seconds for Documents to look for the video. It will then ask you to name the name, and then start downloading the video for you.
All done! Now I agree these are twelve steps – not at all what you would call straightforward. However, I do feel it is easy and anyone can do it if they have basic knowledge of iOS. Once you’ve gone through the steps, it takes just a couple of steps to download a video in MP4 format.
Here’s where it gets even better, though. You can download MP3 files from any online video, too! It’s great for when you want to download just the music from music videos on YouTube.
Just create another bookmark and use this code snippet instead. The rest of the steps are the exact same:
javascript:window.location.href='r'+('http://alltubedownload.net/video?audio=on&url='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)[3] );
And you’re done. We hope this helps! Credit for the idea goes to redditor next2none, and of course alltubedownload.net for allowing this.
