Game of Thrones Fantasy TV series has gripped a major chunk of audience with its two thumping seasons and third one to be concluded in March 31st 2013. But who would have thought that Game of Thrones would have something to do with the iPhone’s and the Android smartphones. One keen fan of the Game of Thrones [mstyle] was so much inspired by the Iron Throne that he decided to make smartphone dock based on the one priced possession which prompted all the drama within all of the Westeros. Taking his own detour on crowning the iPhone 5 and Android smartphones as the rightful heir to the King’s landing [mstyle] made a 3D printed docking station after tinkering with ways to manufacture the dock that would be the ultimate sign of power and geekiness.
Using 3D printing to make the Iron Throne smartphone docking station seemed the right idea as it was no ordinary design to replicate. The complete dock design was broken up in four separate pieces to 3D print using ABS plastic material and the first prints were made on a 4.7 x 4.7 inch 3D printer. After 3D printing the Iron Throne dock the next task was to reassemble the parts and then sand then to give a smooth finish. Thereafter the acrylic paint and black paint gave the dock that distinctive aged metal look.
Iron Throne dock measures 6.85 X 5.82 x 4.64 inches and is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy S3 or any other microUSB charged smartphone. According to the maker the Iron Throne Dock is being continually improved and you can pre-order one of your own for just $50. While on the other hand if you think that making such an Iron Throne dock for your smartphone is no big deal then follow the instructions given at Instructables and give the dock you own design aesthetics.
