Windows 10 is by default set to send daily usage data and other diagnostics to Microsoft through usage feedback to improve your user experience. If you disapprove of this, here’s how you can disable feedback in Windows 10.
The policy of collecting feedback to improve user experience has been dangling around from quite a while now. Microsoft says that this feature has been included to collect non-private data from users and use that in the refinement process of Windows. Its aim, like the Windows Insider program, is to ensure that future builds of Windows are exactly what users want.
While the intentions of Microsoft maybe transparent, this feature hasn’t gone down too well with the more privacy-conscious users. They argue that this surely puts their privacy at risk in some sort of way and that Microsoft including this feature in Windows 10 and then subsequently turning it on by default is something unacceptable.
It should have been turned off by default and that every time Windows wants to send feedback to Microsoft, it should first prompt the user for permission and then send Microsoft the feedback. Cyber security is a major talking point nowadays. It is fundamental that every individual has it and that it is perfectly secure.
To increase security in Windows 10, Microsoft has taken some initiatives such as improved family management etc. Kudos to them for that but users argue that automatic feedback and diagnostic usage to Microsoft is a breach of privacy and maybe security. If you’re one of those security and privacy conscious users, you can disable feedback to redeem yourself.
Steps to disable feedback in Windows 10.
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Click on Privacy: Location, Camera.
Step 3: From the left side menu, click on feedback and diagnostics.
Step 4: Click on the drop down menu under feedback frequency.
Step 5: From the list of options, select Never as shown in the image below.
That should do it for the feedback. However, you might also want to limit Microsoft from getting their hands on your computer’s complete diagnostic and usage data. To do that, simply click on the drop down menu under Diagnostic and Usage Data and click on Basic as shown in the image below.
That’s it.
