One of the things in the world you’ll never get tired off are shortcuts. We tend to look for shortcuts in almost anything we do. If you were looking for a way to quick make your computer go to sleep, shutdown or restart, learn how to create desktop shortcuts for them in Windows 10.
Shortcuts are meant to make our lives easier by cutting our work short. The basic purpose of shortcuts in Windows is to help users reach a specific target via a simple sequence of keys without extra steps. This is extremely efficient and helps save valuable seconds that can add up over time if you’re working in a time intensive environment e.g. doing an assignment, working to meet a deadline etc.
Windows 10 is a Pandora box full of shortcuts. We’ve previously discovered some excellent ways in which you can put shortcuts to good use in this OS that include creating a shortcut for any program of your choice, eject USB through them etc. and these discoveries do not end here. This guide features how you can create desktop shortcuts for sleep, shutdown and restart just the way we created a shortcut to slide and shutdown Windows 10.
Steps To Make Desktop Shortcuts
To restart, sleep or shutdown Windows 10, you first have to go to the Start menu and select the options from there. If you’d like to make it a one double-click process, below are the steps that will lead you to desktop shortcuts:
Step 1: Right click anywhere on the desktop.
Step 2: Select Shortcut from the context menu.
Step 3: One by one, enter the following commands for each type of shortcut in the shortcut wizard as mentioned below:
For Shutdown: Shutdown.exe.
For Restart: shutdown -r -t 0.
For Sleep or hibernation: Path of the folder where Windows is installed rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,0. Windows will put your computer to sleep if the hibernation feature is turned off otherwise it will hibernate.
Step 4: Click on Next.
Step 5: Give it a name and click finish.
These shortcuts also come in very handy when one of Windows 10’s common bugs which causes the Start menu to freeze comes into play.
That’s it.
