A new stealth update in the OneDrive desktop has managed to sneak its way to your desktop. It allows you to control / throttle both upload and download speeds for syncing files – something that will be appreciated by users on large networks with limited bandwidth.
While OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox are some of our favorite cloud storage apps of choice on Windows 10, Microsoft’s OneDrive has been often criticized for its relatively limited set of features.
All that has changed now with the introduction of a stealth update that has hit the Desktop app of OneDrive (not the UWP app we covered). A new tab in Settings now allows users to control their upload / download speed of OneDrive and even the option of leaving it uncapped!
If you were previously reluctant on using OneDrive, the new update might just encourage you to make it your active choice of cloud storage. Having tested the uncapped download / upload speed feature, I can easily say I look forward to using OneDrive more frequently on my home WiFi.

How To Throttle Syncing Speed In OneDrive
Open up the OneDrive desktop app from the taskbar as shown below, Right-click on it and choose Settings.
Look for the new “Network” tab that is now in the window.
When you open the Network tab, you will see the following options which now gives you access to controlling the flow of your internet speed with regard to your upload / download speed.
As you can see, users now have unparallel control over their internet connections when it comes to OneDrive on the desktop app at least, whether or not the recently revised Universal Windows Platform (UWP) of OneDrive will get a similar feature is not yet known, but for now the desktop app has really stepped up their game!
While this is a highly under-rated feature and surely deserves much more attention, I can easily say that the upload / download speeds of the app have truly impressed me!
Prior to this update, Google Drive was my primary cloud storage of choice but this new update has truly stolen the show and has made OneDrive my new go-to cloud storage app while working on my laptop.
While I am well aware that the Desktop apps of Google Drive and Dropbox have long had these settings, it is good to see that OneDrive is catching up to the curve! It goes to show that Microsoft is still implementing subtle changes to our Windows 10 experience every day right under our noses, waiting for us to discover them!
