Ambient interface interaction for cloud services allows surreal gesture control with hands

Ambient Interface interaction gesture control

NEC has been working on a very intuitive technology that allows you as a user to use your hand to transfer files between gadgets without even touching the screen or using any other form of physical hardware to do so. This natural interaction technology is aimed primarily at enhancing the user experience while using their high-end computers and was lately shown off at the Retail Tech Japan 2013. To make this surreal Ambient Interface interaction possible, NEC made use of information interaction combination of the small video projectors and the image display of the user’s gestures captured from recognition cameras.

The applications of this innovative gesture interaction input are immense for example in restaurants to see the menu and at the same time place the order by simply waving you hand in a particular manner and then holding the item and dragging it to the order placing interface.

The system uses gesture recognition by 3D measurement of the depth information of each point in the image CMOS camera depending on the irradiation light. The projector projects the 3D video of the moving object like a music file and thereby makes the user feel as if they are magically moving the files across their computer and gadgets, especially for the cloud based services.

This technology paves way for much more enriched user experience when it comes to operating on multiple devices as the user looks for a simplified and much more realistic means of interaction. One of the possible uses for a wide array of commercial applications could be displaying and manipulating the information in the vicinity of equipment that doesn’t have any display like an air-conditioner or lighting solutions.
