Today we are going to look into the subject of emulating retro console experiences – particularly those of the Sega Genesis, 32X, Saturn, SG-1000, SG-3000, and Mega CD – on your Windows 10 so that you can live out the glory days of gaming on your modern desktops!

What is Emulation?
Console Emulation is the method by which you replicate a game console experience on your desktop computer system i.e. running old console games on your current PC. This is done for various purposes but the chief purpose is recreational. Additionally, a lot of people turn to game emulation due to technologies getting completely outdated, and hardware/games becoming rarer which many would like to revisit for nostalgia purposes.
A Brief History of the Sega Genesis
The Sega Genesis was launched near the end of 1988 and in its life time managed to sell an impressive 30 million units globally.
The console introduced the world to new characters and games that would be modern day staples of gaming. With Mortal Kombat, Sonic, and many other noteworthy series getting their debut on the Sega Genesis.
The Sega Genesis competed directly Nintendo’s Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Nintendo won this generation of console wars, with 49 million units sold globally. It set the pace for games like the Mario Series and Donkey Kong, while the generally family friendly eco-system led to censorship in games like Mortal Kombat.
The State of Emulation of Sega Consoles
Console emulation has been around for a relatively long period, dating to the days of Windows XP. Today we are going to look at emulation for one of my favorite and also perhaps your favorite console of the time, the Sega Genesis.
The emulator we are covering today will not only run Sega Genesis games but will also be capable of running Sega 32X, Sega Master System, SG-1000, SC-3000, and Mega CD on your system.
The Best Windows 10 Emulator for Sega
Hands down, the best emulator for the Sega series of consoles would have to be Kega Fusion. Having stood the test of time and being widely available on all major operating systems including Windows 7, 8, 10, Mac OS X, and Linux, it is clear that this is the king of emulation on anything and everything Sega before the Dreamcast! Whether it’s the popular Genesis, or the powerful but ahead of its time Saturn / Mega CD, Kega Fusion can run all those retro games with ease.
It has a very high rate of support for games and offers some amazing performance. You can use a number of custom controllers and carry out mapping from the emulator itself for better convenience.
How To Setup Kega Fusion To Run Sega Games
First of all, you will need to download Kega Fusion for the operating system of your choice. You can do so by going to the official website [Sega Retro]. If you are going to use the emulator on Windows, be sure to download the “Kega Fusion low frame rate fix (Windows 8 and later)” from the link as well.
When you have downloaded the emulator, simply extract the contents to the location of your choice and run Fusion.exe on your desktop.
When you have it running. Choose the ROM you wish to emulate by first choosing the respective console.
You can do this by clicking on File on the toolbar.
I am going to use my favorite game on the Sega Genesis, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for this demonstration, which by the way I also own so this is totally legit.
Once you have selected the SEGA console, you will be asked to selected the particular game ROM. We cannot share how to download game ROMs for SEGA’s many consoles, but it is actually quite easy to do. We’ll leave you to do that on your own. Just search from them on Google!
Now, click Open after selecting the ROM. Kega should now run it automatically!
If you wish to configure your keyboard or a third-party controller to your system, then you need to go to Options in the toolbar and click on “Set Config“.
Over here, look for the Conntrollers Tab and look for Port 1. In the Use dialog box you have to choose your controller which by default is the keyboard. Once you have chosen your input device. click on Define and follow the prompts at the bottom of the menu.
With that, you are now ready to relive the glory days of the Sega Genesis, Mega CD, and Saturn with this handy guide! As you continue to use the application you will steadily learn about using it proficiently for each passing game.
