Jump Lists have been an obedient servant to us since Windows 7. They contain multiple recent files or folders related to the program we’ve right-clicked on. Like every other Windows feature, Jump Lists have also gone through periods of evolution. At first, it was very easy to drag and drop (i.e. pin) items to them but from Windows 8 onwards, it was made a tad more complex.
Apart from containing recently accessed items, Microsoft included Jump List support for quick actions e.g. being able to skip or pause songs in iTunes, or Spotify. This is similar to Apple’s 3D Touch feature in iPhone 6S, come to think of it…
Jump Lists follow a simple principle for getting filled up in Windows 10. They keep a track of the folders, files or general items you’ve recently accessed and automatically adds them to the list. For some, this is intuitive but for others, they may not like the idea of Jump Lists keeping a record of your file access history. So to prevent Jump Lists from doing that, follow the simple steps mentioned below to remove items in it.
Clearing Jump Lists
Clearing the recently accessed or most popular items is quite simple. You just need to toggle a switch from deep within the Settings app.
Step 1: Open Settings app.
Step 2: Click on Personalization: Background, lock screen, colors.
Step 3: In the left side menu, click on Start.
Step 4: Toggle off Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar as shown in the image below.
With that, your Jump Lists will keep any history of your usage. This would be handy especially for those of you sharing family computers.
