The world’s most popular password manager is finally available on Microsoft Edge. In this post, we’ll be discussing all the features of the new LastPass extension.
In the modern day and age of managing multiple online identities ranging from social networks, personal email addresses, and other websites, it becomes a tremendous task to remember unique passwords for each of them. LastPass for Edge is finally here to help alleviate those worries.
We can safely assume that the average internet user has at least 5 different passwords to manage if we account email address, social media, gaming portals, and other online platforms which require a username or password to access.
While many people implement an intricate system of remembering their passwords for each site or write them down with pen and paper, LastPass is your gateway to password management in the 21st century.
Here is a quick video and introduction into what LastPass is as of their last major update to the app:
LastPass is a popular add-on [Mozilla Add-ons] / Extension [Chrome Webstore] that has long been present in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome respectively. It also exists on smartphones to help make the daunting task of remembering passwords a thing of the past even on your smartphone which is perhaps the most difficult outlet to enter passwords for websites on.
The amazing thing about LastPass is how it works with such grace to sync all your accounts with one master account. While this can be seen as the proverbial phrase of putting all your eggs in one basket, you needn’t worry about said basket if you keep a good password to manage the entry into the basket.
Using LastPass on your phone will allow you to use the same account on your web browsers as well, giving you the penultimate experience when it comes to managing your passwords.
A new feature in Insider Preview Build 14361 released by Microsoft allows users of the build to install the LastPass extension on Microsoft Edge. You can download the extension right now from Microsoft’s developer website [Download link].
The allowance of Extensions in Microsoft Edge came to be as of Insider Preview Build 14342. If you are curious on how to install the extension you simply need to follow the instructions below:
- Download and install the extension of your choice from the Windows Store the same way you would download an app.
- When you have done so, open up Microsoft Edge and give the extension the necessary permissions it needs by selecting Turn on.
The extension will now be up and running on Microsoft Edge, ready to manage your passwords.
While the library of extensions is limited to many proprietary extensions of Microsoft, recently there has been a significant influx of some quality extensions such as the addition of AdBlock and AdBlock Plus.
While extensions in Microsoft Edge are currently a feature exclusive to Insiders, the feature will become commercially available to all consumer builds when the major anniversary update rolls out in the coming weeks.
