PRESS RELEASE:

MONTEGRAPPA/THE SNAKE 2013 RELEASE

In the tradition of one of its best-loved pens, the legendary Dragon, Montegrappa will issue The Snake 2013. Like The Dragon, The Snake 2013 is a limited edition to celebrate a specific year among the 12 in the Chinese Zodiac. The pen that has been created by Italy’s oldest manufacturer of fine writing instruments is a bold, powerful statement designed to embody the virtues of its subject. Occupying the 6th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Snake symbolises diverse character traits that include intelligence, gracefulness and materialism. Snakes are persuasive, most effective at getting the things they want, even if it means
they might scheme and plot to achieve their goals. When it comes to decision-making, Snakes are extremely analytical and as a result, they consider situations and judiciously before making their choices.

Snakes, too, can be materialistic creatures, choosing to surround themselves with the finest that life has to offer. In day-to-day existence, this can be characterised by the atmosphere created in the home, where luxurious furnishings and surroundings help Snakes to seek the peace they need in order to thrive. Five elements further define The Snake: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. The Snake’s five elements complete a 60-year-cycle. 2013’s classification is The Water Snake, which last occurred in 1953. In addition to the traits common to all Snakes, the Water Snake is also influential, motivated, insightful and highly intellectual.

Water Snakes work well with others and enjoy recognition and reward. A guarded creature, Water Snakes reveal their deepest feelings to those closest to them, but no one else. Montegrappa’s Snake 2013 Limited Edition writing instruments are decorated with stunning die-cast overlays, of a quality familiar to those who have examined The Dragon and the Chaos pens so highly prized by enthusiasts. The metalwork embraces a barrel in a deep red-brown hue, made of a special pearlised resin called ‘Pietra’, which is Italian for stone. The clip terminates in the signature Montegrappa ball that facilitates easy ingress and egress from one’s pocket. For The Snake, it is fashioned from the semi-precious stone Carnelian, in a colour to match the cap and barrel. Fountain pens in The Snake 2013 Collection are fitted with ebonite feeders and 18K gold nibs, fed by a piston filling system. The collection is available as a limited edition of only 888 fountain pens and 888 rollerball pens in sterling silver and only 88 fountain pens and 88 rollerball pens in solid 18K gold. All pieces are numbered and offered in an elegant wooden box.

Since 1912, for more than a century, Montegrappa has been manufacturing high-quality writing instruments in the same historic building in Bassano del Grappa, North East Italy.

Thanks Giuseppe Aquila!
