Learn a simple trick to hide files within simple JPG images, it works like a charm every time!
A few weeks ago, we made a guide on how to make invisible folders on your Windows 10 desktop, today, we will be teaching you a neat little trick to hide files inside a jpg file. Yes, just like the Hollywood movies!
The following guide has some simple pre-requisites;
- Winrar downloaded and installed on your system.
- The image has to be in jpg format
- All naming has to be done in lower case, no capital or spaces in the names!
- Highly recommended you name everything something simple and easy to type.
STEP 1:
Navigate to This PC, open up C: and make a new folder. Making sure the name doesn’t have a space or capital letter in the name.
STEP 2:
Once the folder is made, you have to go to the location where you wish to hide your content, and do 2 things
- Choose WHAT you want to hide, this can be anything you wish.
- Select a “cover image” i.e what jpg you want to use to hide what you want to.
When you have done so, right click on what you want to hide and select Add to Archive (you need to have Winrar installed for this part)
You HAVE to make sure that you create a RAR file. anything else will not work.
STEP 3:
Once you have your rar file, copy it to your folder in C: along with the jpg image you wish to use.
STEP 4:
Next, Press Windows Key + R and type in cmd. When the command prompt window opens, type in the following:
For the sake of convenience, I have added my screenshot as a guide.
cd C:folder (Folder is the name of your file in C:, my files name was “rizwan”)
Once you have typed the above, now type: (in the below instance, sample.jpg is the name of your image, mine is pic.jpg and file.rar is named funny-pics.rar)
Make sure you enter the full name of your image including the extensions (jpg and rar) and that you name your two extensions something easy and simple to type that A) doesn’t have capital letters B) doesn’t have spaces.
copy /b sample.jpg+file.rar sample2.jpg
Here is my command prompt window as an example.
If you get 1 file(s) copied. that means it worked for you! Now navigate to your folder in C: to see a new, but heavier image there.
STEP 5:
Now that we have an image, you are probably wondering how do you access it? Simply run winrar, press CTRL + O and navigate to the image after selecting All files from File type!
And when you click on open archive, you will see your hidden files:
As you can see, The trick works wonders, but don’t go too overboard with putting all your eggs in one basket. An image too large will definitely attract too much attention.
