The battery is something that mostly gets worn out the most quickly after we buy a new laptop. To increase its longevity, change a common setting that causes battery drain after shut down.
A new laptop. It brings a lot more than happiness. It brings longer hours of battery time which old laptop users dread for having again. The life of the battery is something everyone would like to encounter some sort of breakthrough that would plummet it from where it currently stands at. At most a brand new battery can provide the very same output, since coming out from its box, for a year or so.
While a year may sound good for a laptop that costs $450, the same cannot be said for one that costs $900+. You simply expect its battery and the laptop itself to do much more when you’ve splashed such a huge amount. Battery drain after shutdown is a common complaint along with some other errors such as one related to .NET Framework, a Windows update error and the annoying 0x800ccc13 error which many users around the globe have brought to the surface while using Windows 10. We’ll focus on why does the battery drain after shutdown.
This happens because of a default feature in Windows 10 known as Fast Startup. It helps your computer to reboot faster. This works on the principle that the OS does not completely shutdown your computer when you tell it to instead going into a dormant state and when you start your PC again, it reboots much faster. To disable this, follow the steps below.
Open Control Panel.
Then click on ‘System and Security’ and then on ‘Power Options’.
From the left side menu, click on ‘Choose what the power button does’.
Next, click on ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’ as shown in the image below. If prompted for UAC, allow it.
From the settings now available under ‘Shutdown settings’, un check the box that says ‘Turn on Fast Startup(recommended)’ as shown in the image below and then click on ‘Save changes’ after which you can close the Control Panel.
Note: This will only work if you turn off your PC and start it again. It will not work for the restart option.
This should do the trick!
