How To Create Switch User Shortcut In Windows 10

If you are like me and share a single laptop with more than one person in a household, you will more or less face the issue of having to log out and hand over the laptop.

Today, we will teach you how to make a desktop shortcut that will allow you to hand over the desktop to another person of the household without the need of multiple clicks narrowed down to a single click operation!

STEP 1:

Right-click on any empty space on your desktop. Choose New and Shortcut. You will see the following dialog box open up. In the dialog box, type the following and click on Next:

STEP 2:

After the above, you will be asked to name your shortcut, name it whatever you wish, but for the sake of convenience, name it Switch User.

STEP 3:

You will see the icon appear on your desktop. You could end the guide here and have an ugly icon plaguing your desktop, but if you wish to give it a decoration, carry on with this step.

Right-click on the shortcut, and click on Properties.

Once Properties is open. Click on Change Icon and press OK on the following dialog box that pops.

Under the “Look for icons in this file” enter the following in the box and click on OK.

STEP 5:

Ideally, you can choose any icon that would suit you from any of the available ones, but if you want to give the most suitable icon to your shortcut, navigate along the scroll bar until you find the following icon.

Once you have highlighted it with the blue marker, Click on OK.

When you’re back in the properties page, press Apply and OK. Now, you will see your icon implemented.
