How To Change Default Apps In Windows 10

If you do not like the new Windows 10 apps that open your music, pictures etc. change default apps through the following procedure.

Is Windows 10 the most intuitive of all Windows? In my opinion yes it is. Some may argue that Windows 8 was the real jump when it comes to Windows development as it was something never seen before. Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows XP were all in the same mold but it was Windows 8 when Microsoft seriously shifted gears and moved into the fast lane. Agreed. But it’s not Windows 10.

Windows 10 is intuition taken to another level. Many features previously only available in Ubuntu or Mac OS have finally made it to Windows. Although it took them a long time coming, we patiently tend to believe that instead of not coming altogether, its better that they came late.

I was previously told by a surprising number of friends, who had upgraded to Windows 10, to not move to the new OS and instead stay on Windows 8.1. They complained about Windows 10 being very buggy (all three of those are separate links!). Not only this, they found it very bad when it came to performance as they felt it slowed down their PCs. Resisting all of their opinions, I upgraded to Windows 10 and found it amazingly beautiful but yes I do agree that its not the best when it comes to making the most of your computer’s architecture.

One of the things I dislike about Windows 10 are the new apps it has introduced for opening our photos and music. They’re slower and a little bit cumbersome to play with. If you don’t like them, change default apps as mentioned below.

Step 1: Open Settings.

Step 2: Click on System: Display, notifications, apps, power.

Step 3: Click on Default apps.

Step 4: Click on an app whose default you want to change and from the fly out menu, select the app of your choice as shown below.

Another way to do it is to:

Step 1: Right click on an file of your choice, lets say a song or a picture.

Step 2: From the context menu, click on Choose another app and click on an app of your choice.

Step 3: Then check the box that says Always use this app to open ____ files as shown in the image below.

That’s it.
