How To Enable Find My Device In Windows 10

If you’ve just bought an expensive laptop, one thing must have certainly crossed your mind. What if it gets lost? To eradicate this fear, enable find my device in Windows 10.

Windows 10 is a somewhat worthy successor to Windows 8.1. Why because it is mostly built on the same principles as is the previous OS. A lot of the features have simply been passed on to Windows 10 while there are some notable additions such as Microsoft Edge etc.

While there may be many similarities between the former and the latter, Windows 10 has some other exclusive features as well. This includes the silent but comforting quiet hours feature, the intelligent automatic time zone detection feature just like your smartphones can and the ability to sync Microsoft Edge passwords.

Another of such Windows 10 exclusive features is the find my device feature. Previously, this feature had performed miracles when it came to finding lost smartphones. Its superb tracking prowess allowed users to personally track their own smartphones without the help of any higher authority. Whether it was stolen or you just forgot it somewhere, find my device was always there to have you covered.

This was something that Microsoft developers thought about as its not just the smartphones that can get lost, laptops can too. So, they decided to include this feature in Windows 10 as well. It is sure to pay dividends as I am a personal victim of my laptop getting stolen. It is linked to your Microsoft account so in the event your laptop gets stolen, you can sign in from a website and get to know the last known location of your laptop. To enable find my device, follow the simple procedure below.

Step 1: Open Settings through Windows Search.

Step 2: Click on Update and Security: Windows update, recovery, backup.

Step 3: From the left side menu, click on Find My Device.

Step 4: From the resulting window, turn on the Save my device’s location periodically as shown in the image below.

Now you can close settings and your laptop will be under the watchful eyes of Microsoft. Note that this in no way implies that you can leave your laptop wherever you want to.
