Here’s an intuitive way to save space in Windows 10 using Storage Sense.
Hard disks are an integral part of our computer. It is where everything that is in our computer from songs to OS settings are stored in. Nowadays, hard disk space has crossed into the terabyte category whereas about 40 years from now, 4 GB was considered as a mammoth amount of space.
I first had a computer when I was in grade 5. At that time, the RAM speed used to be 64 MB and the processing speed was some 550 Megahertz. It was enough to make Windows 98 run normally but it lacked smoothness and quickness by a large extent. I used to turn on my computer and then go for a small task then return to find my computer ready to serve me.
One day, we decided to upgrade our RAM to 128 MB and hard disk to 40 GB. It was a massive jump at that time and I remember how jubilant I was upon being allowed by my dad to do so. Just compare how those specifications compare with the specifications we have available nowadays but one thing that has remained constant despite the enormous jump in technology is that we are still not satisfied and on seeing our computer hang up, we’re always ready to smash it into the wall.
Like most other technologies, hard disks have gone through major advancements as well. They have moved from the mechanical hard drives to Solid State Drives (SSDs) which are much faster but more expensive. Portable external hard disks have also made their way into the market quite remarkably. Apart from easy defragmentation, Windows 10 allows you to manage your computer’s space very well through the Storage Sense. To access and save space through it, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open Settings.
Step 2: Click on System: Display, notifications, apps, power.
Step 3: From the left side menu click on Storage and then click on a Drive whose memory you want to save as shown in the image below.
Step 4: After selecting your drive, wait for it to gather all information.
Step 5: It will display how much each category is taking up space on your hard disk. For a detailed view, click on any category and it will provide all relevant details as shown in the image below from where you can make up which files to delete and save space.
That’s just about it.
