If you are an avid user of mobile hotspot or are on a metered internet connect, but frequently suffer from unforeseen downloads of updates from Windows 10, TripMode is just what the doctor ordered!
TripMode [Official Website] is an absolute MUST buy app for those of you who frequently use a mobile hotspot with your Windows 10 laptop.
The app allows you to control all the data flow and allows you to choose which apps to enable or disable in the transmission of data packets when your laptop is connected to your limited mobile hotspot.
The app is available for pre-purchase on Windows 10 and does cost $4.99, but if you want to make sure your mobile data is protected from the hidden behemoth sized downloads of Windows 10 updates or otherwise bulky programs, then this app will truly help you save on data for a one time fee.
Whenever you would go about resetting your network usage, I am sure that you will notice significant savings on data when it comes to your mobile hotspot usage or whatever internet connection that you use on your Windows 10 laptop.
The only real downside to TripMode is that it is currently limited to x64 based Windows 10 systems. The developer however has stated that the x86 version is not far. If you wish to give the free 7-day trial a shot, it is available on the website.
Having used the trial version, I was very surprised by the quality and functionality of the app. Having lost a significant chunk of my mobile data once already to hotspot and the threshold 2 update, it was good to have a selection and choice when it came to managing my hotspot connectivity with a laptop, this is something that no version of Windows offers to entry level users.
Using TripMode is as easy as pressing the toggle on the top left corner of the app and then it comes down to just left clicking on programs that you wish to consume data or not.
If a program is running in color are whitelisted and allowed to consume data, gray programs are blacklisted from consuming data unless allowed by you through a simple left click. Its as easy as that!
What was surprising is how TripMode also works on any internet connection, so even if you don’t have a mobile hotspot or otherwise connection but still have a metered connection at home, this app will help you manage your connections by letting you control which apps to permit or deny usage.
Currently, TripMode is easily my new favorite app to control all my data usage on Windows 10, especially if I have to work on the go and have a limited data connection at hand.
