Windows 10 Mobile Updates To Be Delayed Until Early Next Year

According to recent reports, Microsoft has decided to pull the plug on the Windows 10 mobile upgrade for older phones until early next year. Details after the jump.

Microsoft made a jubilant announcement just about a month ago. Just a couple of days after the announcement of Windows 10 November Update, it was announced that not only the desktop version of Windows 10 would receive significant updates but the Windows 10 Mobile OS will also be made available to older Lumia phones.

Although a definitive date was never quoted, Microsoft officials did say that the update would be rolled out at some point in December. While the desktop version has continued to receive some notable updates such as KB3124200 cumulative update and the improvement of family management, Windows 10 Mobile update is set to face a delay until early next year.

The Windows 10 Mobile update was supposed to be rolling out already. Many users throughout the world were anxiously anticipating the release of this wholesome update which would provide the mobile OS with upgrades to the brand new Windows Continuum and Windows universal apps. This is not gonna happen this year and if you were one of these hopeful users waiting for the updates, you sure will be disappointed. Only Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950 are running Windows 10 Mobile at the moment.

Windows 10 Mobile Updates To Be Delayed Until Early Next Year

The cause for the delay in the release of these updates is still unknown. This will not go down well with many users as the upgrade was announced some time ago. To make it worse, users are in the dark as to why something that was announced with a lot of certainty is undergoing a delay.

However, Microsoft did release a very brief statement with regards to this matter which is not going to cool your anger down at all. It contains no reference as to why the updates have been delayed or a definitive date as to when they will be released. The statement only states that the updates will be rolled out “early next year” with no indication of anything that would help our cause:

This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones.

Although, through the Insider Program, many users are experiencing what Windows 10 OS is like. If you haven’t purchased a latest Microsoft Lumia, it is the only way to get your hands on Microsoft’s brand new OS. Otherwise, unfortunately you’ll have to wait a little bit longer.
