The mighty Windows Registry is back in town. This time, we will discuss how you can remove folders from this PC through it.
Why would anyone want to learn what regedit is all about? Registry tweaking is something you should really learn. It brings you much firmer control over Windows 10. It lets you run Windows 10 the way you want it to as well as look the way you want it to.
A lot of the things not available for users to do in plain sight can be done by the registry. While you can simply disable transparency of Start Menu through the Settings app, you need registry tweaking to disable its color. Similarly, regedit or Windows registry lets you do a ton of other things not available like freeware such as add settings to right click menu, change inactive window titlebar color etc.
Apart from these, you can also customize ‘This PC’ through Windows registry as well. ‘This PC’ is similar to My Computer which was previously used in Windows 7 and its predecessors. It contains some of the most commonly used folders for our one quick access such as Documents, Pictures etc.
These files might be there for us to access them more easily but for some users, having them over there exposed to other people might not be a good idea due to privacy reasons. So, if you’re one of them, you can remove folders from this PC through the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Type regedit in Windows Search and open it.
Step 2: All the folders have different paths that lead to the option to turn them off. They have been mentioned below.
For Desktop Folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderDescriptions{B4BFCC3A-DB2C-424C-B029-7FE99A87C641}PropertyBag
For Videos Folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderDescriptions{35286a68-3c57-41a1-bbb1-0eae73d76c95}PropertyBag
For Documents Folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderDescriptions{f42ee2d3-909f-4907-8871-4c22fc0bf756}PropertyBag
For Pictures Folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderDescriptions{0ddd015d-b06c-45d5-8c4c-f59713854639}PropertyBag
For Downloads Folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderDescriptions{7d83ee9b-2244-4e70-b1f5-5393042af1e4}PropertyBag
For Music Folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderDescriptions{a0c69a99-21c8-4671-8703-7934162fcf1d}PropertyBag
Step 3: For your desired folder, reach the end of the path till you find Property bag.
Step 4: Click on it.
Step 5: In the list of values in the right, double click on ThisPCPolicy.
Step 6: In the text field under Value Data, type Hide as shown in the image below.
Step 7: Say goodbye to that folder as shown in the image below. I applied this tweak for Pictures folder.
Done.
