Windows 10 has lots of great little tools for productivity enthusiasts. As the months passed by, we’ve seen silent additions into many of the in-house apps of the OS. The most recent example of this being Cortana’s integration into Edge helping your image.
Today, we will look at one of the most overlooked features of Windows 10. It is related to the search feature, something we all use very regularly.
Step 1: To start with, press Windows Key + S, or open the search box as you would normally.
Step 2: Click on the three dots in the top-right corner to open up search filters!
Search filters allows you to search faster by narrowing down what you’re searching for. It isn’t uncommon for users to search for something on the web, but get results from their local files and settings. With search filters, you can select which type of data to search for.
The feature has been an in-house ability for Cortana ever since release, but has significantly boosted in the past updates to support a better range of queries. Additions to searching for other materials on your system such as apps, documents, etc, by using a search handler, i.e. apps: Netflix, has been added recently.
When you identify the prefix of what you need to search for, separate it with ” : ” and enter the name, an example is given below of me finding my old friend.
As you can see, there are a great number of benefits to learning how the search filters in Windows 10 works, so that you find files and other media without having to go in circles on your hard drive or other places on your system.
