Windows 10 comes with decent touchscreen controls, but not everyone – even those with touch-enabled displays – use them regularly. Learn how to turn off and disable the touchscreen on your Windows 10 PC for good by following our guide after the bump.
Windows 10 and the its love affair with touch support has been well documented. Windows 8 was the first time when Windows began to take shape as a touch interactive OS with its beautiful start menu. Microsoft further decided to up its friendship with touchscreens and so developed some great features in the form of the touch keyboard and the tablet mode that made interacting with Windows very easy indeed.
A few days ago, me and a friend were studying together as preparation for our tests on his touch enabled laptop. While dissecting some PowerPoint presentations and diagrams, we constantly tapped on the screen when trying to explain something to each other which prompted the computer to select or highlight text on the screen. We had to deselect that again and again which proved to be extremely annoying. That’s when I got the idea that we should do a guide on how to disable the touch-screen on a Windows 10 PC.
So yes, here’s how to do it.
Steps to turn off touchscreen in Windows 10:
Step 1: Open Device Manager.
Step 2: Expand Human Interface Devices.
Step 3: Look for the entry which contains the word Touchscreen. This is the driver that enables touch interactivity.
Step 4: Right click on it.
Step 5: From the context menu, click on Disable as shown in the image below.
That will be all. After you’re done with this tutorial, you can close the Device manager as your display will now function as a normal display without any touchscreen interactivity. However, if you wish to turn on your touchscreen again, simply head over to the device manager again. Now Enable will appear instead of the Disable option and you can simply click on it to reinstate its touchscreen capabilities.
Do take special care with the context menu as the Uninstall is right beneath the Enable/Disable option!
