How to Enable the Hidden Windows 10 Dark Theme

Windows 10 is definitely pleasant to look at, but the light theme can be really difficult to look at. The hidden Windows 10 dark theme will fix it.

Windows 10 is easily a very pleasant OS to look at, but its shortcomings lie in the theme which is a little too bright. The dark theme, like the name suggests, will bring elements of blue and black to your usage allowing an easier experience on the eyes, especially at night time.

The hidden Windows 10 dark theme is definitely one theme that many people will appreciate for being easier on the eyes for people burning the midnight oil.

This is yet another registry tweak, so don’t feel intimidated.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Let’s get straight into the action. Once more, Windows Key + R will bring the Run dialog box. In that box, type regedit and hit enter.

The first step on our journey to the hidden Windows 10 dark theme.

Once again, we will see the registry dialog box open up before us. This time we will navigate ourselves to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionThemes

Once again, this isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Simply follow the yellow folder road once step at a time.

Once you reach the Themes of the above directory, this is where users have conflicting reports. You will either have to make a new Key by right-clicking on Themes and name it Personalize, but for me, the tweak worked by making the DWORD value within Themes.

Now, you have to make a New DWORD (32-bit) Value with the name of AppsUseLightTheme, making sure that the value of it stays at 0.

We are now half way there, For the next step, on the left-hand menu, scroll ALL THE WAY to the top of the menu and navigate to the new registry entry below.

Once you reach there, simply repeat the above process of making a New DWORD (32-bit) Value with the name of AppsUseLightTheme, making sure that the value of it stays at 0.

The final step to summoning the hidden Windows 10 dark theme.

And once again, the change for some will be instant and for others, you will have to reboot or re-login to see the change.
