Tomorrow marks and important day in car collector’s calendar as the historic 1951 Piero Taruffi “Italcorsa/Tarf 2” speed-record car will be auctioned for an estimated starting bid of €160.000-€200.000. This 2,418 cc Ferrari 246 Dino DOHC V-6 engine powered beast produces 195 bhp courtesy the three twin-choke carburetors, Rover gearbox, independent front suspension and chain-driven live rear axle. Designed by the man himself, Piero Taruffi using radical twin-boom ‘bisiluro’ design and advanced engineering features, this car has been part of the long history as it showcased in Italian and Australian museums.
Piero Taruffi piloted this car into the pages of speed records from 1951-1952 because of his intuitive engineering prowess and of course driving skill. Also known as “Italcorsa” and “Tarf II” this car was built in 1951 for 2,000 cc class powered by 1,72o cc Maserati four-cylinder engine having two stage supercharging.
